The Golan Heights

Our family in front of Banias waterfall. We first heard of it several years ago when a big Intel project was code named Banias. (It eventually became Centrino.)

We really enjoyed our drive up to the upper Galilee and Golan Heights. We went to Banias, a nature reserve with a beautiful waterful and ruins of a temple carved out of rocks called Paneas and Herod’s palace at Caesarea Phillipi. The scenery here was much different than the rest of Israel with much redder rock, tall cliffs and green trees along the banks.

A view of the Golan Heights from the vantage point of Nimrod Castle.

After Banias, we ascended further up the heights to Nimrod castle. The view was amazing from here. There is a definitely a reason for the “Heights” in Golan. (Nimrod castle was pretty cool too. It was a sultan’s castle that post-dates Biblical times.)
