Tel Megiddo

One of our last stops in northern Israel was Tel Megiddo (a very large hill with 18 layers of civilizations on top of each other). This is located in the Jezreel Valley in a point strategic in Old Testament times. Its name in Hebrew is Har (hill) Megiddo. The name Armageddon comes from it. It is said that the last battle will occur here. We really enjoyed seeing several Canaanite temples (talk about ancient), a silo with steps carved along its edges, and a really long set of stairs descending a tunnel that leads to the water supply way outside the city.
